pesky hypericum removal advice needed

Hi all

need advice on how to get rid of a creeping hypericum that has refused to go even after several drenches with round up.

Its growing under a large conker tree and i want to plant pring bulbs and hellebores there

i have tried digging it up but the roots are like little ropes and snap off.

What kind of mutant horror are you growing? I guess if Roundup won't touch the stuff then you will just have to keep picking it off as it appears and hope that you eventually exhaust it.

  • I have been  fighting with it for ages i have now dug out every  other  plant and just left the hypericum to do battle with  so with your advice i will really go at it in the spring now.image

is it hypericum calycinum? I remember when I was at college studying garden design. If anyone had it on a planting plan, our tutor would circle it in red and write " nasty little plant" Every time I see it , I think of that.

    Devon.
  • I’m also doing battle with hypericum in a garden I’ve recently taken over . Looking to plant something that doesn’t mind being disturbed when I recommence the battle next year

I have one growing between the slabs at the North facing side of the patio. It must thrive on rubble or whatever is under the slabs. It's welcome there but any seedlings in the beds get removed.
    In London. Keen but lazy.

Cut down to stump and brush on stump killer. Also works on brambles etc.
East Dorset, new (to me) rather neglected garden.
