True geraniums

Lisa PLisa P Posts: 6

I have a true geranium in a pot. I want to over winter it so should I chop it back? Its looking quite leggy and all of its flowers have gone.

Thanks!

Not sure what you mean by true geranium but suspect pelagonium if it's leggy and in a pot.

    Hi,

its not a pelargonium, its a geranium. Its in a pot as we moved house and never got around to planting it out again this year!

geraniums will just die down in all but the mildest locations/ winters.

    No real attention needed.

Better to plant it out in the borders if you can.

So I can plant it out at this time of year and it will be okay? Even with the colder weather?

Yes - it'll be much happier spending the winter in the soil rather than in a pot image
