Daffs generally go at the bottom and it's difficult to plant them too deep but, if growing them with tulips, I recommend you put the tulips at the bottom and use smaller, very early flowering daffodil types above them. The large, later flowering types can look a bit messy in containers in my opinion, particularly if you will be leaving them there - remember that you need to let the leaves die back naturally so you want the untidy daffodil leaves to die back asap.
