thinking of planting one in ground to reach my daughter's flat on first floor, central London, any suggestions on quickest/tallest growing/evergreen species ?

I would go for Passiflora caerulia. Most species are tender, but this species will cope with the coldest winter with no trouble and is fast growing. It will need a trellis for support. All species are evergreen.
