PEA & BEAN WEEVIL INFESTATION!!!
The small estate I live on has been overrun with Pea & Bean Weevils. They are grey/ brown in colour (like large capers, the size of a thumb nail ). They drop and curl up/ freeze when disturbed, which means they often just fall into the soil when you look for them. They seem resistant to usual pesticides. They exist in the root/ soil over winter and simply come back each year in larger numbers! They are eating the neighbours' living ivy fences and I've counted 7 different plant species which they are munching through in my garden, including rhubarb leaves!? All the advice I can find online/ in books says they aren't a threat to plants, simply a bit of a nuisance, causing aesthetic damage. it is beyond that in our estate. They are a slow growing plague , starting 2 years ago, which is reducing our gardens to lacey stalk skeletons! HELP!!!

They overwinter in leaf litter, so I would try clearing up all leaves that fall and cut down on hiding places for them.
Thank you. I plan to really clean up the beds and remove a layer of topsoil but I guess getting all my neighbours to do the same would be very difficult. I may end up having to replace all my plants with ones it really doesn't like at all
