Dahlias in the veg plot

Hi Does anyone know if there is any vegetables that I should not plant my dahlias near on the allotment

  • Nope I've not heard of any but someone else may know more. The only thing I can think of would be the likes of beetroot or lettuce etc.... the Dahlia would shade them out perhaps.

  • Thanks for that.  I have stuck to what I know and planted them with the flowers in my garden  -  will keep the allotment for the veg!!

The 'old boys' on the allotments in our villages always grew dahlias and chrysanthemums in rows on their allotments for cutting - you'd frequently see them cycling home, laden down with veg in their bags and baskets, and a bunch of flowers for the wife image
