Pricking out seedlings

Hi all

How do I know when seedlings are big enough to prick out? Recently I have sown Poached egg seeds, Sweet Peas, Larkspur, Centareua and a few others. They have germinated and are growing quite nicely now around 3"-5" in height. Should I do it soon or wait until Spring?

Regards

Simon

I do it very early, as soon as there's enough seedling to get hold of. That way they don't get leggy and fall over.image

  • You usually wait until the second leaves form, the first leaves are seed leaves the second are true leaves, make sure when pricking out you do so by holding a leaf NOT the stem.

If you think they are a bit leggy just pop them deeper into the compost so they are just above the first pair of leaves that popped out.

  • Thanks Chrissy and Lyn, much appreciated
