Not sure - it has grown to a height of 6 - 7 feet and there are three individual plants rather than a bush. Can't say that butterflies have been mad for it but you could be on the right track.
We only moved here in February and it seems to have grown from "nothing" during the year. Stems are not woody so more like a herbaceous perennial. I think the vernonia gigantea looks like it could be the chap. It is at the front of the house (north facing) in dampish soil so this would add up methinks. Thank you all.

What are the stems like, do you think it's a shrub (woody) or herbaceous perennial.
