Yes FG, all of these were bought for their foliage colour and contrast. They lighten up a shady corner. And at least the current rain is settling them in V. If I see king of Hearts I shall surely give it a go. Is your red, blue and white combination to celebrate the Diamond Jubilee?
I've got the white ones in a shady bed with bluebells, a gold variegated leaf vinca minor, brunnera, gold heuchera and forget-me-nots in blue and white backed with a viburnum opulus aurea and ilex Golden King . They all look very pretty and light up the area.
Thanks for the recommendation Verdun. I just looked up King of Hearts on Google and it's beautiful! I'm going to look out for that one at the nursery. I have a spectabilis which I love and is the only real colour in my shady corner.

WW dark inky purples are great with the whites. If you get good foliage contrasts - a bit of lime in there too - it lifts the whole thing.
I live in west central Scotland - not where that photo is...

Oh yes forgot to say, I've got the gold- leaved/pink flowered form and I think it's called 'Gold Heart'.
