When to move fruit tree from pot to ground
in Fruit & veg
I wonder if anyone can help. I bought a young blackcurrant bush at a garden centre in France two years or so ago. We brought it back to England in the large (18 inches x 18 inches x 18 inches) square pot in which I originally planted it and it now stands in a permanently shady part of our pocket handkerchief sized garden. It has shot up in the last year and I wonder if I should plant it in the gound now.I would prefer to keep it in the pot if possible, but do not want to restrict it. Or should I give it a prune? It has lots and lots of new leaf shoots this spring. Thanks

The reason for its intense growth is probably due to the fact it's looking for light - these prefer full sun but will tolerate light shade.
As it is in a pot you can plant out now if you wish. Trimming it will probably mean no fruit this year, altho' you could sacrifice fruit now to give it a better long term future. This is what I would do.
