Gritty Pear
in Fruit & veg
Hi, I have a very old pear tree. Looks lovely, lots of fruit but it is so gritty that the fruit is inedible. I know pears apparently have lots of stone cells in them (scleroids) but wondered if anything can be done about it so the fruit are edible.

I too have an old pear tree , the pears are inedible so dry and hard and as yours full of stones.
They are , I think for cooking . I wait for them to fall as the fruit is unreachable , and the trunk twists. It is a beautiful spectacular tree . Ithe skin is a caramal colour . I peal, core, quarter . Then cook in a dish , just covering with water. cooked slowly they turn a beautiful pinkish shade . serve with a dollop of cream / or alternative .
Mmmmmmmm Deeeeeliciusssss
Thank you, s
Sounds good to me, I think I may add a little red wine or marsala!
