Datterini tomatoes

Datterini tomato.

In an italian cookery book the writer raves about this variety of tomato. As a lover of tomatoes and Italian food I looked up places I could buy the seed from. Unfortunately they are a determinate small plum variety and, as I live some way north of Watford I need to use my greenhouse to successfully grow tomatoes. Can anyone suggest an alternative indeterminate greenhouse variety that would be as good (or better)?

  • Hopefully Italiophile will be along soon to help but I've grown Purple Ukraine for the last couple of years and love them.  They are a plum type, (obviously) purple, early so good for our climate and tasty but the best thing in my opinion is that they are thin-skinned and can actually be peeled when ripe without having to douse them in hot water - the only tomato I've ever grown with that attribute.  Great for cooking.

A trowel in the hand is worth a thousand lost under a bush.
  • I've grown Black Krim in the past, very good flavour. Now I'm growing red Pear, the large Italian one, very good for soup and sauces and for basil, mozzarella and tomato salad. I usually grow a small plum variety for salads and the grandchildren.
