Lily bulbs in pots

I grew some lily bulbs in pots this year.

They were very succesful. Once the flowers had bloomed I cut the heads off and

left the rest of the plants for the remainder  of the summer which gave greenery

amongst the other pots. I have noticed the bottom of the bulbs producing smaller

bulbs. Do I just leave the bulbs in the pots for next year or remove them.

Thanks.

David

  • You can do either David. I generally break a few bulblets off and stick them in gritty compost for a few years and they eventually make new decent sized bulbs. If you leave them on you do get thin growth and no flowers on developing bulbs so I maximise the display by removing the bulblets.
