House wall

Morning all,

I want to plant something on the house wall, our house is low and long and very white pebbledash.

,What would ye recommend. Has anybody got something on their house that's evergreen. Don't mind if it has berries or flowers. not Ivy. image I know I will be planting on the foundations but was going to try and dig a hole and put soil into it.

Any ideas?

Many thanks

  • People give advice about roots v walls/foundations for very good reason! The planters idea is definitely the way to go. My neighbours...solid and ancient country folk...have self supporting climbers on outhouse buildings but never on a dwelling house. (yes that's actually how they said it). It also means that if you need to repaint, patch up or even just change your mind, you can do so without having to get the contractors in. There are some beautiful Wisteria you can get for planters (though I'm afraid of the pruning!!) or there are the simpler Jasmines and the like. Endless choices.
