Holes in my lawn
I've just noticed lots of little holes in my lawn. They are fairly evenly spaced, about 2cm across and 2cm deep and about 30cm apart... any ideas who or what are causing them? thanks for all ideas.

aaah, that might be the reason, we do have a rather fine pair of crows and a magpie family that are regular visitors. thank you for that!
If you get a real invasion of them it can devastate a lawn so I think Verd's advice is good. Some years will be worse than others - like most things, good or bad
I get a lot of magpies, crows and jackdaws poking around but there's never enough to do a lot of damage. I'm not over fussy about my grass ( as long as it's fairly healthy and weed free I'm happy) but if it got worse, I'd possibly have to look at using something.
I live in west central Scotland - not where that photo is...
the lawn isn't so wonderful, so I don't begrudge the crows and magpies their breakfast - I was really just curious about the perpetrators and what they were looking for! If it gets really bad, I'll take your advice with the nematodes - thanks folks, you've all been really helpful.
