hi jen although mine are in the ground (just) i would give it a go it would be like a trial what have you to lose
Hi Jen, as a result of the incident previously described in "Growing potatoes in bags" I unfortunately have no choice but to start now and as chica says what have you got to loose. One point I would make is that quite often you find that those spuds that are still on the shelves at nurseries have chitted in their bags sufficiently enough to go straight into the ground/container. Good luck to us both.
I was in a GC on Saturday and they were still selling them. Plenty of time to grow, just won't be hyper-early
In the sticks near Peterborough
A llot of GC are reducing them now,so you may pick up a bargain.
You can bypass chitting and just plant them out. You'll just have later spuds planting them out now. I plant out Christmas spuds in August which aren't chitted.
I'd be inclinged to plant 1st or 2nd earlies now though. Others posters maybe able to give better advise regarding a main crop as it's possibly to late to plant those out.
I agree with Zoomer, just plant straight out as they are at this time of year.
Thanks eveyone for all your replies .
I shall get some in asap.
