I have doubles, the main culprit is actually the rain. The rain fills the flower and makes them fall over or snap, couple it with the gusty wind we had last week, means lots of mine have ended up in cups around the house!

Auntiemand - there are cats around but into seen any pay any attention to the tulips. I see more in the back garden than front yet the tulips at the back are fine.

Great idea about the pheasants from Dove! Only wish we had more round here. not sure the Glasgow pigeons would have the same flavour image.

seems that the concenus to my problem is birds then. Should have guessed, I've always had problems with birds! image

  • I am also loosing heads about 3 inches below the flower. It seems to be a genetic weakness in this one variety. I have lots of pots with different varieties but only this one breaks. As you can see in the picture, the leaf also has notches.
  • Thank you for help re tulips. I waited excitedly to see what colour mine were- bright yellow and double headed. They only bloomed last week but we had strong winds one day and rain and hail storm yesterday. A couple hit the ground but another 8 were sheared. I was shocked and it did look as tho someone had slashed them but I have many other tulips at the mo- Queen of the night/simply irresistible and the Queens, tho tall, have not bent or broken but the yellows are so beautiful and start of dark lime before they pop. Gutted! They were amazing- cant wait for next year. Tomorrow Ill put them in cups as suggested. Will they do better closer to the wall do you know? Thanks again
