I'd agree with Lyn - it sounds like pieris are not suited to your growing conditions paolomh. Even if you have a lot of rain, if it's in the lee of the house wall, it won't get to the plant. If they get dried out, it can be hard to reinvigorate them. They grow extremely well up here - moist soil, and plenty of water from the sky. In a pot, you'll find it quite hard to replicate that. The variegated ones are also less tough than the green ones anyway.
It's a place where beautiful isn't enough of a word....
