Pugslovesun - I would try and untwine them and have them growing more horizontal than vertical. I would cut each long branch down by 6 buds now and by a further two buds in January. They are robust blighters and I cut all the whips off each August/September and then chopped plant back loads in January/February. They really suit being able to grow up castles etc.
Lyn - you need to cut some of the grass away from the base of the wisteria and water (feed in the spring) - then get some strong trellis/wires because once it has something to climb on it will romp away. Again, prune every branch by 6 buds now and a further 2 after Christmas should flower once it's reached 3-4 years old.
