General question about leaf mould.

Please forgive my ignorance but I'm going to ask this anyway. Does it matter what percentage of leafs I use in a leaf mould pile? so for example if I was to use 90% beech and then 10% oak  (completely hypothetical numbers) would that still produce good quality leaf mould?

Any leaf will do. Although not so sure about evergreens (laurel, holly etc) and i dont think pine needles should be added either. To speed the process on you can shred the leafs with a lawn mower. Wonderful stuff leaf mould!!
  • I find it's best to keep pine needles as a separate leaf mould, they break down a little slower but can be used as a mulch to help raise acidity for plants liking ericacious conditions, such as blue hydrangeas.

  • Ann yes I know about that sort is stuff... I know, since ive been mulching my plants and mixing some shreded leaves into the composted bark the worm populations have increased and the plants are looking happiet. Thank you for your help.
