i have never grown dahlias from seed if i save some when should i sow them and will they flower the same year

from my experience, dry them and store them, then sow at the end of feb, all but one has flowered for me this year, will wait for frost and store him in the shed and see if he blooms next year. I use a mixture of tubers/seeds and sometimes if one catches my eye in a nursery I might buy one.
