Help with hydrostatic gearbox in Husqvarna CTH 170

Hey folks this mower is for sale locally and i'm thinking of buying it, however there is a problem with the hydrostatic gearbox. I'm fairly mechanically minded but have been told these are a sealed unit and cannot be repaired. Has anyone any experience in this area? thanks, John
