Like others have said, overwatering is so easy to do...I have lost seedlings too this way, especially basil.
Nowadays I just spritz them with water from a spray can 'til soil is dampish, rather than watering with a little can. It doesn't flatten them and you don't end up drowning them either!
As for the warmth/growing slowly - yeah well, I feel cold and slow these days, so I'm not surprised the plants are showing it too
More damage done by waterlogging than cold usually. With verb.bon, if you think- what do Mediterranean herbs like ? - pretty much same conditions suit them.
It's a place where beautiful isn't enough of a word....

One of the few tall plants that can go at the front of the border....it's a see through plant.
