planting bulbs in tubs

i am for the first time going to plant some tulips and daffs in tubs for next year ,i went out yesterday and bought some j arthur bowers  bulb planting compost but for the size of the packet (25 L) it seems a little dear at £6 ,i have about 10 tubs to fill can i use multi-purpose compost and get the same results

  • I had no idea there was bulb compo, could be down to my lack of experience but I just got back from my local and got 2 25l of multi compo for 2.69, there was miracle gro multi 50l for 5.99 or 3 for 12 quid, so price wise I think you been done but I always use multi-purpose for everything except ericaceous plants and give them a light feed after planting then a full feed when I see life and when I can be bothered. Someone might come along and tell you different though!

  • thanks think i will go down the multi purpose route be cheaper

I only use bulb fibre for pots of bulbs in the house as it has been specially mixed (or used to be) with extra charcoal so as not to go sour in pots with no drainage. For all outdoor bulbs in pots I just use multi-compost.
