Hello , we pay £25 pa , your fee of £40 must be pa ? Even that to much , even our £25 is to much in my opinion

Did try a year with out the service was ok until the Local Authority banned garden wast e from Normal bins , I used to put grass cuttings in black sack in the bin image

so had to grin and bear it , I make sure the bin is always full , particularly as we have an allottment

Sorry, Lou, that is called fly-tipping. You may cut it up small, lots of people don't.

If you do it at night, is that because you know you shouldn't be doing it??

Definitely says £40 per year http://www.wiltshire.gov.uk/rubbish-and-recycling/gardenwaste which is less than a pound a week. Not unreasonable to have the big awkward bits taken away and you can compost the smaller stuff behind your shed image

Another possible alternative is to contact local gardening service companies. One of my local ones will leave you a big builders bag to fill and they take it away when you are ready for £15 a bag. But the council bin sounds better value.

I also live in Wiltshire.  It's per year.  Also the council will subsidize a Green Johanna compost bin for about £25.

Our local council provided a green wheelie bin for garden waste( which I never use because I compost everything) which crows , foxes and cats don't go for, but don't supply a bin for household waste.

They've not got the cheek to suggest residents use animal proof bin bags to stop animals ripping them open.

JUST SUPPLY US WITH WHEELIE BINS FOR HOUSEHOLD WASTE!!!!

Ours is included in council tax and is collected fortnightly, the only problem is they stop collections in october and don't start again until end of March.  OK for grass cuttings but useless when it comes to clearing and cutting back.

Our council supply big white bags for compost, they give us five, but I have put one of my own out as well and they have taken that, that's a once a fortnight collection. Most I compost, but there's stuff I won't keep, mostly brambles. That is free. I don't think I would pay for the service though.

our daily household waste is a big problem though, they don't supply wheelie bins so we put ours in used compost bags, having used a little bin bag first of course, but they only collect this once a fortnight alternate to the green waste, recycling is collected every week from a box they supply.

I asked if I could buy our own wheelie bin because the foxes will have it out, even during the day but they don't have the facility for them.

your question about branches and how do they break down as compost

Anything you put in for compost will break down better if it is chopped  in to smaller sections.Personally, I would only put in small sections of branch timber as they will take longer to decompose.  I have 4 compost bins and that is still not enought compost for my needs

  • Just bumped up Pallets thread for you to see compost bin on page 2.
