I took these photo's at Helmingham Hall in Suffolk on fathers day 21-06-15.
The plant has astilbe like leaves and lovely starry white flowers.
Can anyone identify it for me please?
Gillenia trifoliata, that's a lovely specimen. I've never managed to keep one going.
No idea, but that's a lovely photo.
flippin' 'eck Nut, you're good.
I've never even seen that one before.
Wow that's a quick response, thanks
Clever Nut! It's lovely but not for me as it needs neutral to acid soil and mine is definitely alkaline. Pity, as it certainly seems hardy enough for my garden.
The RHS has this - https://www.rhs.org.uk/plants/details?plantid=878
She's pretty good that nut, isn't she?
I've never even heard of it
It would need to tolerate a lot of rain here, but it would suit my soil then obelixx - and the cold if it will survive where you are!
That'll be why mine snuffed it obelixx, it's alkaline here. I bought it from a garden that must have been alkaline. Maybe they've lost it now
It is also useful in that it will take quite a lot of shade and it dies attractively too, with red calyxes.
That's true punkdoc I have it growing in a woodland setting, not as good a specimen as this picture though its lovely.
