transplanting wild bluebells

  • I don't mean to sound hard but can't you leave the bluebells alone and buy new bulbs for yourself? They plant and flower easily and will spread on their own in time. I'm all for plant sharing but digging up nature…… image

  • Oh, sorry…. and beware of the ash…. they put down seedling like weeds. If you don't want new trees pull them immediately as they root quickly….

Ever hopeful, are you meaning me? These bulbs were from a garden and the friend was thinning them out anyway., so we thought we would try planting them over here.

Give them another year Bavbulbs, I transplanted some from the back to the front garden but can't remember whether they flowered the first year it was such a long time ago.

Mine are in flower now though, it could be that your bulbs were dug up before the plant had been able to die back and return the goodness back into the bulb for this years flowers and hence no flower.

Thanks Zoomer44, this is what we hope. They indeed still had flowers on them when they were dug up.

Bavbulbs - are they planted deeply enough?  The bulbs need to be at least 4" under ground  - if they're too shallow that can prevent flowering.

    Good luck image

Dovefromabove, thanks, yes they were deep enough. The leaves have now come up and we shall let them live as long as possible. So with luck we shall flowers next year. It would be lovely to start Bluebells in Bavaria!!!!!!
