Mystery Plants with Mystery Illness

We have two plants in the front that we inherited, which appear to be diseased. Can anyone advise what the plants are, and whether it is curable? Thanks

Too small to see what they are but they look pretty poor specimens. Too much yellowy brown for health. I'd dump them and get something that likes your soil.

Thanks - not sure what happened to the pictures. I think the bottom one was supposed to be variegated. I'm thinking taking them out may be the best plan.
My pictures never enlarge now. Was a recent discussion about this,
I think you'd be wise to dump. You could spend ages nurturing a dead loss when a good plant could be growing away.
