magnolia stellata

I am lucky enough to garden half the year on a mountainside in Italy, 700m up. We had to throw out a magnolia stellata last year when it just turned up its toes..admittedly that one didn't look great when planted.

This year I have planted another, very healthy plant. I put blood fish and bone in the hole, and lots of home made garden compost and  purchased potting compost round it, replacing some of the heavy clay earth around the top.

All was glorious for 2 months, now, all the leaves have brown borders, despite still producing new leaves.

Any advice would be most welcome

  • Thanks, I shall cross my fingers and hope for the best! It is quite exposed, but has a 4' wall about 10 ' away to soften the wind coming up the mountain.

Should I feed it before we leave in 3 weeks?

  • Just thinking generally, cause I'm new to Stellata but you can kill a plant with kindness.

Sometimes letting it get on with itself makes for a stronger plant.

i have found this in my garden that some plants I have neglected survive and grow well.?
