Mulberry tree

Lou12Lou12 Posts: 1,149

My sister bought me a mulberry tree for my birthday back in February and it's been languishing in a large pot ever since waiting for me to find a good place to plant it. I'm thinking of planting it where the bay tree was.

The bay tree grew massive and I'm worried the mulberry will be huge as well. Does anyone have any experience of mulberry? I was wondering if it's possible to keep it pruned to a large shrub without compromising the fruits.

A neighbour of mine has a mature mulberry and it is a whopping tree, you couldn't have it in a container and I cannot imagine it ever thriving if she had tried to keep it small. Perhaps a friend with a larger space could take it on and give it a good home?

I'm not sure if it's black or white, the bark is greyish. I'm just going to put it in and hope for the best. If it grows gigantic in 10 years time I can always let it go the way of the bay - chop it down.
