Newbie Conifer hedge question

Hello there, I am currently having a retaining garden wall put up at the side of my house, the wall will be made from breeze block and faced on the outside with brick, 5 foot high holding in the land on my garden side which is 4 foot high. My question is would I be able to plant a conifer hedge close to the retaining wall (within a foot or two) or will the roots over time cause damage to the wall?

I would think over time the roots would definitely interfere with the wall especially if the hedge was over 3 feet.

  • Yes I was hoping to get the hedge to around 7 or 8 foot high. Can anybody recommend a different type of hedge that wouldn't damage a retaining wall?
