seed potatos

Hello

This year I have decided to try saving some seed potatoes for next year.

I have just lifted my rows of Romano and selected some smaller ones for seed, what is the best way to store them over the winter months please

Cool and dark until you are ready to chit them.

Only keep for seed if you have had no disease whatsoever on the plants.

I always buy commercially grown seed potatoes, guaranteed virus free, usually grown high up in scotland where there are no aphids to spread the disease.

I agree, fidgetbones, but ColinA may want to do it as an experiment. So long as he isn't relying on them for all his potatoes.
  • I usually plant a few overwintered seed and have had no problems. Back when my late dad grew spuds in large quantities we rarely bought in seed, too expensive.

Keep your potential seed as carefully as the ones you want to eat in spring. Kept in a cool, dry, dark place main crop spuds will last until April, then sow them.
