hi I am new to this forum but wondered if anyone could help me identify a plant I found growing in a pot. I know I didn't plant it, so I left it to see what would grow.
Any help on identifying this would be appreciated.
This arrived by bird or wind and self seeds with gay abandon in my moist beds over by the pond. It's a pain in the bum to keep digging out. Not a welcome visitor here and definitely hardy..

you can propagate them by taking one of the heads and trimming it back by about half to forma smaller umbrella, then dunk it into a glass of water UPSIDE DOWN and they root really well.
We've got a pair in the conservatory in Indian cooking pots we brought back from hols. Their happy to stand in water too.

I agree. It is unlikely to be hardy in most of the UK.

What is a Cyprus and is it poisonous? Thank you for a very swift reply.
It is a type of Sedge which is similar to grass, but needs a damper soil. Not poisonous, indeed some of the sedges have edibkle seeds

Thank you everyone for the information. It's growing in a pot with a hosta and the pot is extremely damp. I must say it does look quite attractiv.
