Hardiness of Shrubs

I have just been given a Nerium Oleander which has an unusual double pink scented flower. I have been told by friends that this is not a hardy shrub but according to the planting instructions, these are to do just that, plant outside. I live in the South West of the Dordogne. Could anyone advise me if this plant can be put in my garden?

That depends on how frosty your bit of the Dordogne gets in winter as it will only withstand very light frosts. You could plant it in a sheltered spot and cover it with a couple of layers of garden fleece in winter to give an extra 2 or 3 degrees of protection.

My Oleander has been outside in a pot for 10 years in all kinds of weather.
I am on the Isle of Wight so not as cold as 'oop norrth'.
You are in the southern part of France so would assume temperatures would be OK?
Parts of the Charente and Dordogne get -15C in January/Feb so can't assume an oleander will be OK outside.
I've had 3 of them in terracotta pots on my patio for 5 years, happy as Larry and produce a good show of flowers. Luckily it's a south-facing garden in East Anglia and they are placed in front of the house wall for added protection.
