New apple trees

I've just been given 2 apple trees,
I already have a very small apple tree and 1 pear tree but both showed signs of disease last year that I wasn't able to identify.
I'm worried about planting the new trees near to the old ones, would it be better to remove them and start fresh or should I plant the new ones in another part of the garden?
