  • I hope someone offers some help or advise.....

  • Fungi seem to spring up like magic, anywhere in the garden.  I'd guess the spores were probably in the turf you've just laid - but I'd also guess that they won't do it any harm, and will disappear again before too long.  You can pick them off if you don't like them (but don't assume they're edible mushrooms!).

Since 2019 I've lived in east Clare, in the west of Ireland.

It's that time of year Paul image

I always get a few patches in the grass here.  Anywhere a bit shady - especially a bit of  ground that stays damp - is a perfect home for them, but they won't cause a problem. If it becomes a big area,  you can spike the ground in spring and summer to aid drainage, which may stop them reappearing. Small, isolated patches will  disappear as quickly as they've come though image

In a border they break down and disappear into the soil.

It's a place where beautiful isn't enough of a word....

I live in west central Scotland - not where that photo is...

Pick them as soon as they appear to stop the spores spreading once the lawn is more established keep ii drier, give a good nitrogen feed next spring.

  • Thats great thank you very much image

Spores can arrive on the wind, and in the air. Some of the fungi that popped up near my pot plants are now in the Kew herbarium. They are mostly harmless, and may benefit plants. Some are quite exotic foreign species, brought in with coir and other imports. The good news is they won't take over, unlike weeds. They'll just give a nice display in wet summers and autumn.
