Narcissus not flowering

Planted 300 narcissus only 4 flowered this year ? What am I doing wrong ? they are fed and watered and are in full sun in my mountain home in Cyprus, are they too close together ?

    Which type of narcissus are they?  How deep did you plant them?


    Gardening in Central Norfolk on improved gritty moraine over chalk ... free-draining.





  • I don't know which narcissus they are, and I planted them about  6 or 7 cm deep, and very close together.

    They're too shallow, then. The bulb needs twice its own height of soil above it. So, if your bulb is about 7cm tall, it needs 14cm of soil above it - about 15cm is usually the maximum needed. This is especially important if you have dry, sandy soil, which you probably do.

    Once the bulbs have finished flowering, dig them up and plant them deeper, then feed and water them as usual.

    Hopefully, you'll get more flowers next year.
