Wild strawberries

Wild strawberries have taken over my garden this summer.  We have a clay soil which I know needs to have some good compost/fertilizer added to it but the strawberry runners have covered the ground very comprehensively.  What can I do to get rid of them?

I have same problem. I let them get out of control as I thought they would taste nice -wrong! Dug them out a few days ago and they're sprouting again already. Don't like to use weedkiller so I suppose I'll have to keep digging them out until they give up.
    In London. Keen but lazy.
  • Got mine resticted to wild flowere area where they have strong competion. The area is surrounded by lawn which they do not invade due to mowing.

  • Thanks for your comments.  I haven't had chance to get out there and dig them up but it looks like that's what I'll have to do.  I just wish my ground was a bit easier to dig!
