honeysuckle mildew
Hi can honeysuckle mildew transfer to other plants?
This spring we planted an amelanchia near a neighbours fence. It was very happy until the neighbours honeysuckle came into leaf. This had mildew and now the amelanchia leaves have the same infection. Can this be treated on our amelanchia?
It is a lovely plant and is just starting to bed in.

Amelanchiers are pretty robust so they shrug off most things Jo. That said, mildew can spread from one plant to another. It's mainly caused by dry conditions and poor air circulation, so improving the growing conditions can help prevent that. Honeysuckles need moisture at the roots so if they don't have that, they can be prone to mildew, especially after the summer.
I'm sure there will be a chemical way of solving the issue , but the best solution is prevention. You can prune off any damaged branches of your shrub and keep it well watered in long, dry spells. Make sure there aren't too many other plants or shrubs crowding it and you should see an improvement. Nothing you can do about the neighbouring honeysuckle, except pruning off any material that falls into your property. Perhaps you could have a word with the owners too

Powdery mildews are host specific - however because it often strikes when plants have been weakened by a cultural problem, it can appear to spread.
Honeysuckle often succumbs to it's own Powdery Mildew when it is suffering from dryness at the roots.
If the amelanchier is also a bit dry at the roots maybe that's why it's own form of mildew has struck? I wouldn't worry about it doing too much harm to the tree at this time of year, the leaves have served their purpose and will soon be falling. I'd gather them up when they fall, and burn them.
