Bees caught in fleece

I have just unwrapped some fleece from some plants I was protecting from frost when I was horrified to discover some bees trapped in the threads. Most were already dead and even those still alive still had threads caught in their legs and could not fly. Has anyone had the same problem and what could be done to avoid it?
