poison from contamination

I have a small garden, space is a premium, so I have three fruit trees ( 2 apple and a plum ) right up against a YEW TREE. My question is, will the fruit be 100% safe to eat?

HELP!

Many thanks in anticipation.

Life doesn't work like that. Yew is yew, apples are apples. They don't merge.

I would be more concerned that the fruit trees won't have space to grow

Yes, I'd be concerned about that too - how close are they?

  • I know it was daft to put them so close together( poor husbandry ) but all three have borne fruit, I recently read that poison can leach out of the yew pines and contaminate the soil below and in turn affect surrounding vegetation. Can anyone answer my original question is the fruit safe to eat?

    Once again many thanks.

The reason not many plants will grow under the canopy of a yew tree is the dense shade and lack of moisture.

    Hi Bruce,

Lots of things in gardens are poisonous. Rhubarb leaves are , but they don't " contaminate" the  stems.

Caution is good, but don't become over anxious.

  • Same with potatoes, we eat the tubers but all leaves and green parts above ground are poisonous.
