really thats good,i dont want the bother of digging up really, its new,and its in a secluded area, thanks joe47,
I keep mine in a big pot, and overwinter in the greenhouse, and I do that with cannas as well. I am in the North Midlands. If you cut off the leaves, wrap the stem loosely with straw. You could put a chicken wire cage around it and stuff that with straw. Then fleece over the outside of that. It has to breathe. If you use plastic it will rot. Mulch well around the roots and put plastic over that to try and keep the roots on the dryish side. Even if the stem goes, if you don't have heavy frost, it should shoot from the base again.
This has some good advice about protecting bananas over winter.

Excellent website pictures there, Ceres.
thank you both,do you mean all the leaves, fidgetbones.
One of my fave websites Ceres. I've read every page, not just because of the very useful advice, but also because it's very funny in places.
Certainly is.
I'm in the south west and I stick mine in the polytunnel and leave it. The top usually goes a bit grubby, but comes back in Spring.
thankyou.x
