Which ones are you having trouble with Joan?

    In the sticks near Peterborough
  • I had that problem so I planted them in pots and when they grew into strong plants planted them out in the garden - they look lovely now

Anemones (Just think "No ones eneny") are very easy.  You do not have tp worry if you are planting them the right way up as they right themseves.  Try in a pot or windowbox.  Anemone blanda will spread its lovely blue and white flowers and the wood anemone, Anemone nemorosa a little later. Anemone de Caen can be planted any time the ground isn't frozen ot flooded and will flower in the spring, summer and autumn, 8 weeks after planting.  The ones in the pictures flowered last year and were left in to flower now.  Buy from a good nursery who specialise in anemones.

If you are growing anemones from the dormant corms, are you soaking them first.

When I plant anemone blanda I usually presoak them for 24 hours just to kickstart them. It seems to help.

  • i have 3 delphiniums in pots which are ready to flower ,when can I plant them out,. I live in the north east of England and its been pretty cold recently,

Are they outside at the moment or under cover?

@tomstattyead you would be better asking this question in a new thread headed Delphiniums.

You need to harden them off. If they have been inside , they will be soft and tender, so harden off by putting them out in the day and then inside at night for a week, then leave a couple of nights by a sheltered wall, then plant out.  If they have been outside all the time, they are safer in the ground, and have a sheet of newspaper or fleece to drape over if a frost is forecast.
  • Thanks, I have been putting them out but wasn't sure for how long . I have 2 in garden from last year ,They seem to be coming along  ok! . :)
