The wall faces outwards onto the patio next to my back patio window

Plants suggested are great but want complete coverage so cannot see into next doors garden.

Hedge of some sort would be good but ones i have seen are really expensive and have to be attached and could do with a suggestion for free standiing potted hedges if they exhist  got one quote for 3000 dollars!!

Are you in USA?  I think you have different shrubs there, otherwise I would suggest an ornamental ivy or climbing hydranga

have got a screen artificial large one but when attached at edges keeps billowing out in the middle ....do you think i should cut into small pieces to attach it and what would hold this onto the wall?

Sorry, you mentioned a cost of 3000 dollars so I thought you were abroad.

Have you thought of painting the wall as a first step to making it less obstrusive?

I'm not sure your screen idea sounds suitable.  A self-clinging plant seems the way to go.
