I wouldn't cut it back until late spring. It's a bit tender so it would be good if you have a frost-free greenhouse or sheltered corner for it over winter.

Thanks Verdun, yes it is full of flowers and honey bees! It has grown large for a container but I believe it is not a hardy salvia variety. I could plant it in the garden but wonder how I could protect it through the winter, I think I would have to dig it up and bring in greenhouse but it may still be too large.
