Asparagus Stalks...

Hi All,

This is my first year growing asparagus, and I have 6 heathy plants, they have produced a mass of fern type stalks. Having researched it online, opinion seems divided as regards whether to cut the stalks for the winter; when to do it and what to do with the remaining crowns.

Any guidance would help me.

Regards,

Dan

  • When the fern has turned yellow and died, then cut it down to ground level.  Hand weed the bed and mulch in late winter with good weed-free garden compost or bought bags of soil-conditioner.
