Asparagus Stalks...

Hi All,
This is my first year growing asparagus, and I have 6 heathy plants, they have produced a mass of fern type stalks. Having researched it online, opinion seems divided as regards whether to cut the stalks for the winter; when to do it and what to do with the remaining crowns.
Any guidance would help me.

When the fern has turned yellow and died, then cut it down to ground level. Hand weed the bed and mulch in late winter with good weed-free garden compost or bought bags of soil-conditioner.
In spring feed with Fish, Blood and Bone.
