  • To precis what pansyface quotes, if you have had carrot fly this year then don't grow your carrots in the same place (crop rotation is mandatory in my garden.)  Fleecing the carrots all season almost guarantees damage-free carrots but is a bit of a hassle and not very easy on the eye in my opinion.  I now grow mine in 60cm high raised beds, no protection, and don't get any carrot fly problems (the adults allegedly only fly about 45-50cm high.) image

A trowel in the hand is worth a thousand lost under a bush.

Than you for your advices re carrot fly.  I've been growing carrots 2 seasons now in my poly tunnel in two separate beds (one each season) and only had problems this year.  Growing in raised beds 16" high I didn't think I would have had a problem.  Will use a different bed in spring and will cover the seed too.  Thank you. Di.
