Paint the leaves carefully with a glyphosate gel, such as roundup stick. That will be translocated into the roots and kill it.
We have tons of it here, I just keep pulling it out every week and that controls it just fine. You can spray it all you like but it will always come back.
We had White bindweed up to the bedroom windowsills when we moved into our last house. It was all over the small back garden. We sprayed with glyphosate and left it to die. A little grew again and was treated the same. After two treatments it was gone.
Occasionally some would try to creep back in from the neighbour's garden. I kept my eyes open for it and sprayed it as soon as it appeared. It was no bother after that.

If it is in a hedge and you want to keep the hedge, make sure if you spray you only get the long runners on the ground, and not the leaves on the hedge as it will kill the hedge as well. Glyphosate is the only suitable weedkiller, as it goes back into the roots, and the roots go down a long way. Most weedkillers just burn off the tops and the perennial roots will regrow.
I've been helping a friend with his garden and he had bindweed EVERYWHERE. Didn't want to use any chemicals on it as he has a dog, so we have been digging out the roots. Have filled around 3 or 4 binbags with roots over the last few weeks, but so far, hardly any re-growth
it should hopefully be a lot easier to control now
Sorry to say it'll come back next year Pink lily. Any teeny tiny bit of root left behind will re-grow and as bindweed roots are very brittle you'll never get it all out.
Spray with glyphosate on a dry day and keep the dog in for an hour or so until the foliage is dry - it'll be fine.

if you can untangle decent lengths of stems, poke them into a polythene bag and spray into the bag, then tie the ends up and wait for it to die.
This avoids contact with the hedge and the dog.
Dove, if it comes back next year, he can deal with it himself!
My back is breaking from all the digging and root pulling. Will tell him about the plastic bag trick though, thanks
Can someone tell me what brand they use, I have been using the roundup gel with no lucky, I put it on the leaves and it seems like it is dying off but then it has a lot more growth on it, or am I not doing it at the right time of year. advice would be much appreciated.
