apple diseases
in Talkback
my apple tree, grown in an extra large pot, it is of dwarf stock, had plenty of fruit on which had all set, They are cracking quite deeply at the point where the stalk is attached to the tree. Any ideas what this could be and what steps to take to prevent this happening.

Its possibly due to uneven watering. If they are on the dry side, then get a sudden deluge they swell too fast and split.
I think that could be the reason. The pot cracked during the winter, and now it doesn't hold water very well. We did have several dry spells whilst I was absent and I probably overwatered. I intend to transfer it into the garden this autumn and hope that will alleviate the problem
