ant nests in lawn

Lawn used to be fine up to a few years ago now this summer several ant nests and now bare muddy patches slightly raised.  When digging up a small area red ant nest found.  Tried vinegar and.  Never happened before nipon powder.  Any suggestions.  When the flying ants flew a few weeks ago the lawn was glistening with ants as they appeared through the lawn

  • I've had a few problems with ants nests and as much as my other half tells me to leave them alone... and I KNOW this is cruel but I have used boiling water and bleach! Awful I know.. but it HAS worked in the past. I fill a mop bucket with water from the kettle, lift the soil or if the nest is exposed just pour it straight on.

The boiling water and bleach will probably kill the lawn as well. I just mow over the mounds. Not really a problem. image

  • what if the nests spread then all I would be left with is ant nests and mud

  • the only problem with leaving ants alone is they tend to take over plus you cant sit in your garden in case you get bitten .. nasty things are ants they will go into hiding soon with the cooler weather coming in
